Goals of the Utah Mining and Processing Industries Collaborative
  1. Target companies in the mining, metals and mineral processing industries have been identified and characterized by the Utah State Industries of the Future Initiative and other organizations. This program will identify areas of research that will benefit those companies and result in energy reduction, increased competitiveness, and waste reduction.
  2. Achieve the support and involvement of mining, metals and mineral-processing companies, and other related industries through participation in the program activities such as conferences, workshops, proposals to the DOE, and state partnerships with the State Office of Energy Services, OIT, universities, and national laboratories.
  3. Facilitate information transfer to mining industry companies, academia, and other interested parties, both within the state of Utah and other western states using both conventional and innovative techniques, including extensive use of a program web site and Internet conferencing.
  4. Build effective partnerships to develop and implement state strategies and action plans which addresses OIT's Industry Visions and Roadmaps for the relevant industries and crosscutting technologies. These partnerships will include strong participation by industry, U.S. DOE (OIT), relevant Utah agencies, academia, and national laboratories.
  5. Assist the State in establishing energy savings targets for mining, metals and mineral processing and help implement a statewide plan of action to meet those targets.
