Goals The State of Utah Industries of the Future Initiative (the Initiative) will help Utah industries:
  • Improve their competitiveness and profitability by improving the energy efficiency, environmental performance and productivity of industrial facilities, processes and operations.
  • Remove inefficiencies and materials waste that lower value to customers and reduce profit and reinvestment.
  • Reduce their impact on natural resources by lowering the risk of incorporating new materials and energy efficiencies technologies.
  • Form partnerships and alliances within Utah and with the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Industrial Technologies Program

Utah Industry Utah Industry Industries that are economically important to Utah include: Mining, Ferrous and non-ferrous Metals, Metal Casting, Petroleum, Technology, Agriculture, and Chemicals.

Utah has educational research institutions as well as private corporations that are participating in research and development programs that address goals and objectives identified in Industries of the Future Roadmaps and Visions.

In addition Utah has a significant number of small to medium manufacturing and industrial facilities which are in need of basic technical assistance in energy efficiency and waste minimization — they are candidates for the services provided by OIT’s Industrial Assessment Centers. When Utah’s IF initiative was started there was no IAC in Utah (the nearest were at Colorado State and the University of Nevada at Reno). Recently Utah IF successfully teamed with the University of Utah and the Utah Engineering Experiment Station to in a proposal to bring an IAC to the University.

University of Utah Industrial Assessment Center The U is one of twenty-six universities across the country to receive grants of more than $150,000 each to conduct energy efficiency assessments of manufacturing plants. More . . .
