SALT LAKE CITY, UT (November 19, 1999) -- etc Group, Inc. has received a contract from the Utah Office of Energy Services to implement a new state-wide industrial energy efficiency and environmental program - Utah Industries of the Future. The $350,000 initiative is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technology and the Utah Office of Energy Services. Several private companies in the industrial and energy sectors have expressed an interest in supplying additional funding and in-kind services.

etc Group, Inc. and its partners -- the Utah Office of Energy Services (OES), Utah Engineering Experiment Station (UEES), Utah Technology Finance Corporation (UTFC), Utah Power/PacifiCorp, Baldor Motors, the Utah chapter of the Association of Professional Energy Managers (APEM), Utah Manufacturing Extension Program (UMEP) and Action Consulting -- will use the two-year grant to develop a State Industries of the Future program designed to help Utah industries improve their competitiveness and profitability by improving energy efficiency and environmental performance.

The Utah Industries of the Future program will provide education, training, and technical and financial assistance through workshops, conferences, and demonstration programs. It will facilitate the creation of industry-government partnerships and alliances and will develop leadership groups to support energy efficiency and pollution prevention activities.

The US Department of Energy's Industries of the Future strategy, led by the Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT), creates partnerships between energy and waste intensive industries, government, and supporting institutions and laboratories to accelerate technology research, development, and deployment.
